Mrs. Dorothy Starkey age 86 of Arab passed away Tues. Aug. 30,
2011 at Marshall Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Starkey was born on Jan.
14, 1925, in Arab, AL to Milton Oliver and Martha Catherine Jones
Owens. She was married to James Clarence Starkey who died on Feb.
2, 2002. She was a homemaker and member of New Friendship Baptist
Church.
Survivors include: Son and Daughter in law: John and Sherree
Starkey of Madison; Daughter: Cathy Denton of Arab; Sister in law:
Lila Mae Owens of Arab; Grandchildren: Megan Starkey, Riley and
Jesse Denton; Several Nieces and Nephews and long time friends whom
she loved.
Preceded in death by: Parents: Milton Oliver and Martha
Catherine Jones Owens; Husband: James Clarence Starkey; Brothers:
Sherril and Manuel Owens; Sisters: Zena Ferguson and Alma Bobo
Funeral service was Friday Sept. 2, 2011, at 3 PM at New
Friendship Baptist Church with Brother John Robles officiating.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation was Thurs. from
6-8 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel. She lay in state at the
Church from 2-3 on Friday.
Pallbearers were: James Bobo, Barry Daugette, Jordan Shelton,
Wallace Cook, Don Smith and Robert McCowan
