Mr. Manuel Edsel Benefield, age 82, 0f Arab, the New Harmony community, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Hanceville Nursing Home. He was born on Oct. 26, 1928, in Decatur, AL to Gurley L. and Gerdys Noles Benefield.

 

He is survived by his Wife of 60 years, Maxine Brooks Benefield of Arab; Daughters: Sandra Benefield of Arab and Sharon Benefield of Birmingham; Two Nephews: Lee Benefield of Russellville, and Mark Benefield of Haleyville and three great nephews: his dog Lady and grand-dog, Bene;

 

Preceding him in death were his parents, and a Brother: Dwight D. Benefield.

 

Manuel was a Farmer, a member of New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 57 years. He was a 50year member of the Baileyton Masonic Lodge and a member of the Amanda King Chapter of the Order of the Easter Star in Arab.

 

Funeral Service was Sat. Oct. 1, 2011, at 11 AM at New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Vaughn and the Rev. Tim Pinkard officiating. Burial was in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 6-8 PM at Gober Funeral Chapel, of Arab and the body lay in state Sat. at the Church from 10-11 AM. Suite 104 Hoover, AL 35244.

 

Pallbearers were: Phillip Vaughn, Harold Vaughn, Larry Vaughn, Eugene Plunkett, Dennis Chambers , Brad Brannan

 

Honorary were Tommy Plunkett , Ronnie Noles and Mickey Noles
