Sara M. "Sally" Cox

Sara M. “Sally” Cox age 82, of Albertville formerly of Arab passed away Sunday November 2, 2014, at Shepherd’s Cove. Mrs. Cox was born on June 29, 1932, in Oneonta, AL to L.D. and Marie O. McDonald. Her early childhood was spent in Oneonta, Springville and Birmingham before moving to Arab when she was in the 4th grade. She graduated from Arab High School in 1950, attended Snead State and Auburn University. She was married to Ray Cox for over 62 years. Sally was co-owner and operator of Brindlee Mountain Telephone Company with her brother, Sid McDonald, from 1957 to 1982. She was an active member of Arab First Baptist Church for over 60 years. After she retired from the telephone company, she became financial secretary and later Treasurer of First Baptist Church from 1988 to 2005. Mrs. Cox was active in several clubs and organizations through the years including Jaycettes, The Eastern Star, Mother’s Club, Garden Club and First Baptist Church Ladies Prayer Group. She served on the Coty of Arab Beautification Board and was active in the Arab Chamber of Commerce for many, many years. She co-chaired the Chamber’s annual Christmas parade in downtown Arab. When her kids were in school she was active in the PTA and Band Boosters, directing the Miss Arab pageant for numerous years. Sally left a legacy of love to her family and friends; love for her God, love for her family and love for doing for others. She is survived by her Husband: Ray Cox of Albertville; Sons: Dr. Jimmy (Celia) Cox of Sugarland, TX, Lee (Melanie) Cox of Arab and Joe Cox of Hendersonville, TN; Brother: Sid (Jane) McDonald of Union Grove; Grandchildren: Cory Cox of Arab, Rachel (Ricky) Morrow of Arab, Erin (Daniel) Chausse of Oxford, MS, Jackson Cox of Sugarland, TX, Sara Cox of Hendersonville, TN, Christopher Cox of Arab and David Cox of Hendersonville, TN; Great Grandchildren: Dylan Morrow and Raylee Morrow of Arab and Roman Chausse of Oxford, MS; one special niece: Kelly McDonald Thomas and two Nephews: Foster and Wes McDonald and a host of friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother in law: Gene Cox. Funeral Service will be Thurs. Nov. 6, 2014, at 2:30 PM at Arab First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Murphy and Dr. Clint Landry officiating. Burial will be in Arab Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 PM until 8 PM at Arab First Baptist Church and also Thurs. from 10 AM until Service time at 2:30 PM. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
